Switzerland initiates a constitutional referendum on Bitcoin, needing to collect 100,000 signatures within 18 months
Bitcoin advocate Dennis Porter revealed that Swiss legislator Samuel Kullmann is pushing for a referendum plan to include Bitcoin in the Swiss constitution. The plan requires collecting 100,000 signatures within 18 months to prompt state parliaments to vote on the inclusion of Bitcoin in the constitution. Even if it ultimately fails to pass, the process of collecting signatures will encourage all state parliament members to deepen their understanding of Bitcoin. The proposal has now entered the review stage by the Swiss federal government.
Previously, Switzerland planned to incorporate Bitcoin into its constitutional system and has now initiated a referendum review procedure.
